The Columbia Second School PTA Executive Board welcomes you to the PTA website! We hope you find it interesting, fun and inspiring. Of course, it remains a work in progress, like all volunteer efforts, but we're sure it will offer important information and assistance to CSS parents and faculty alike. Columbia Secondary School truly reflects the strength and diversity that is New York and upholds the strictest academic and community standards. Our students come from the many racial, ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds that make this city great, and at CSS they coalesce into a truly harmonious community. Your Parent-Teacher Association cherishes and works hard towards supporting that community building and we urge and welcome all parents, grandparents and guardians of all backgrounds to actively participate. Please join us at our increasingly informative monthly general meetings, learn about school activities and opportunities, and let us know your thoughts on our school community. Of course, there is always a need to increase parent participation at any school and CSS is no exception. So, while we thank the many parents who do give their time for the CSS community, there is always work to be done, always a need for more parent participation. Please do your part when called upon to support our CSS students and community. Even better, approach us with your ideas on how we can build CSS together. The PTA's fundraising efforts benefit the entire school community, but the bottom line is always our students. All funds raised by the PTA are funneled back into programs and events for them. Here is just a small sample of the many wonderful events, programs and needs your PTA supported in 2016-17: The CSS Musical Program presentation of "In the Heights" ($5,000 approved PTA funding); the purchase of Google Chromebooks; Hispanic Month celebration; Black History Month celebration; auditorium sound system upgrade; a full drum set for the Musical and the tuning of the auditorium piano; school dances; athletic awards, gymnasium wall padding; Spirit Wear sales; Parent-Teacher Night meals for teachers; Philosophy Roundtables; Senior Banquet; girls’ volleyball; high school graduation; National Honor Society induction ceremony refreshments; and sixth grade orientation.
